SAC Meeting Minutes
November 2, 2009
Meeting called to order at 6:00 PM.
Those in attendance: April Day, Mary White, Mary Yudin, Cheryl Jordan (excused), Pat Houston (excused), Patty Henderson, Betsy Gunderson (excused), Tracy McIntyre, Michelle Muniz (excused), Sonia Amaya, Wachera Ragland, and Chandra Taylor.
Mary Yudin gave SAC members a brief update of PTO happenings and the PTO fundraiser. An informative meeting on PBS (positive behavior support) will be taking place on November 16th at 6 pm; the speaker will be Mary White.
Mrs. White gave SAC members and update on the SIP budget. JD Parker received a grant from the DOE for school improvement. Most of these funds will be used for Professional development and after school tutoring. Julie Dickson is the consultant hired to train teachers in the area of math instruction. Heidi Mills with the University of South Carolina is the consultant training teachers in reading and writing strategies. Six teachers are also receiving training to be “teacher trainers”. Grant money will also be used to pay for six teachers to attend the Model Schools Conference in Orlando. The reading coach salary and reading material will also come from there funds.
Mary Yudin asked if the effectiveness of afterschool tutoring is being tracked for effectiveness. Mrs. White stated that they are tracking data this year with the help of a teacher on staff.
Mrs. Day led a discussion of the SIP. Mrs. White answered any questions members had.
Mrs. White reminded members there will be no December meeting.
